Networking in Nigeria

The Nigerian network stack covers IP transit, CDN, Cloud WAN, and Cloud Connect. Transit here is shaped by two things that make the country unusual: the subsea systems that come ashore on the Lagos coast, and IXPN, where Nigerian ISPs, mobile operators, and content networks exchange traffic directly. Together they mean a domestic request can be answered domestically rather than hauled to Europe and back.

Cloud Connect carries private links from Nigeria into hyperscaler regions, which for this market sit outside the country, so the enterprise path to AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud runs over dedicated capacity instead of the public internet. Colocation in Nigeria

Edge colocation is available in the Nigerian footprint, giving customers rack space for their own routers, storage, and appliances alongside Zenlayer bare metal, IP transit, and CDN. It is the usual route for enterprises that have already bought hardware and now need it inside Nigerian borders. Colocation is recorded at country level rather than at every Nigerian facility, so the site is chosen with Zenlayer rather than assumed.

Power is the defining planning constraint in this market. Nigerian facilities cannot lean on grid supply the way European or North American sites do, so on-site generation, fuel contracts, and multi-day fuel storage belong to the design rather than to the fallback. Can one Nigerian node cover the rest of Africa?
